Pure Storage FlashBlade is a good product for organizations who are looking for high-speed storage solutions. Its capabilities of high-speed reading and writing are at par with any industry competition and exceed them in few cases. Pure Storage FlashBlade helped our organization in storing and retrieving our data with good performance.
  • Easy scalability by quickly adding new flash cards into Pure Storage FlashBlade.
  • High speed reading and writing.
  • Good support team to back up this good product.
  • Storing data in the back end on public cloud can be changed.
  • Data replication can be avoided on remote sites.
  • An efficient de-duplication algorithm would be great.
Pure Storage FlashBlade is particularly well-suited for organizations whose use cases demand high-speed data storage solutions since Pure Storage FlashBlade handles such operations with ease. With its very efficient algorithms, Pure Storage FlashBlade can make scalability just by simply adding new flashcards to the rack and the rest is taken care of by their algorithms. It may not be suitable for a few due to its high initial owning costs.

Pure Storage FlashBlade is being used primarily for our research department for certain data sets. It will also be used for digital imaging storage for certain clinical department. We were looking for something to provide reliable and fast access with attached storage to some applications.
  • High performance storage
  • Highly scalable solution
  • Simple management
  • SMB file sharing should be more user friendly and have more Windows file system-like features.
  • When turning on Window mode, it should impose limitations for future volume expansion to the next units.
  • Configuration screen for Directory service is confusing and difficult to setup.
It's well suited for high-performance storage requirements used to support NFS. Windows SMB share is less flexible than other NAS storage.

The FlashBlade is being used to protect our Veeam backups. The Systems Engineering team are the only ones that use it, but because it is used as part of our backup infrastructure it supports the entire company. The FlashBlade is a repository to store all production backups. We've enabled Safemode on the FlashBlade to protect production backups from ransomware.
  • Speed of read and write
  • Familiar interface to that of Pure Storage FlashArray
  • Ability to scale out
  • Initial configuration is complex/confusing
  • Capacity
Since implementing FlashBlade into our backup infrastructure, the speed at which the backups complete on a nightly basis has increased tremendously. On the reverse, the time it takes to restore from the FlashBlade is very minimal. Couple the FlashBlade with a FlashArray and the backup and restores are insanely fast. The FlashBlade works well in our scenario as a backup target/ It would not work so well as a standard SAN scenario. While it would be fast, the cost does not make it feasible.

The initial use case for our 1st FlashArray was for high performance VM storage. We were rolling our our initial Kubernetes cluster and needed a good storage solution. The Pure Storage Orchestrator plugged right into our initial deployment and worked so well we used it for all the storage for our new 150+ node Kubernetes deployment at our new datacenter with almost all our production systems utilizing it.
  • Kubernetes support
  • Replication
  • Great support
  • Price
  • BYO keys to S3 storage
Pure Storage FlashBlade is a great all-purpose storage solution for our datacenter and over time a big win over AWS S3 in both price and performance. Due to the price, many companies looking to have an on-prem data lake will need to look at other HDD bases systems for a tier2 data lake that doesn't require the performance of Pure.

We are currently using Flashblade as backend storage for VMs, utilizing NFS exports. Flashblade is only installed at our primary datacenter, so remote sites with local VMs are using local storage (non-Flashblade).
Additionally, we are working on proof of concept projects to use Flashblade for future analytics workloads.
Primary business problems solved by Flashblade:
  • secondary storage that is very fast and scalable (our primary storage is Pure Flasharray).
  • consolidating storage vendors and platforms to a single vendor Pure Storage.
  • Eliminates any storage latency troubleshooting we used to do on other platforms for virtual machines.
  • Massive throughput!
  • Simple interface.
  • Eliminates volume sprawl as we can present much larger volumes and still enjoy very low latency and high throughput.
  • Need replication capability.
  • HTTP functionality to use Flashblade like an HTTP server with directory browsing would be great. For storing common content for internal use like package repositories, installers, system images, etc.
  • Syslog support for system logs and audit logs.
It's not appropriate for storage workloads that need replication to another site, for instance, disaster recovery.
It's also not appropriate for storage processes that rely on cloning and snapshot capability, for instance, database server volume cloning for refreshing data between application environments.

This is used for high-speed cross-platform unstructured file storage.
  • Ease of connectivity
  • Fast storage
  • Great Deduplication
  • Security options are limited
  • SMB connectivity was limited
If you need fast storage with easy setup with a simple environment, this excels.
